Global Currents: Untethered Foreign Affairs

James Kirchick (The End of Europe) and Syaru Shirley Lin (Taiwan’s China Dilemma) unpack the issues in a changing landscape of twenty-first century foreign affairs.

Addressing slow but cumulatively dramatic changes on opposite ends of the EurAsian landmass, Kirchick and Lin address how the assumptions firmly held during the half-century of the Cold War are coming into question, foretelling potentially formidable new challenges to a U.S. foreign policy, which itself seems increasingly untethered from the assumed certainties of the past.
